Current Events
The Cecilian Singers are currently preparing a CD of Michael Van Dessel’s Missa in Honorem Beati Oliverii (Mass in Honour of Blessed Oliver) for choir and organ. The recording will take place in St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Dundalk on 29 May 2011, using the acoustic and organ for which the mass was composed. Michael Van Dessel was organist in St. Patrick’s from 1923 until 1974. He composed four masses for choir and organ and many motets, which were used in the round of liturgical feasts.
The Co. Louth Museum will stage an exhibition of Michael Van Dessel’s life and work from mid-June until September 2011. The Cecilian Singers’ recording of the Mass in Honour of Blessed Oliver will form an important part of the exhibition. Visitors will be able to listen to it at one of the acoustic points which will be a feature of the exhibition.
Recently the choir won an award at Navan Choral Festival, singing Justorum Animae by Lassus and O Jesu Christe by Van Beercham.
In September the choir will begin preparing for a concert in which they will take part in late November in the Tommy Leddy Theatre, Drogheda.
